Polymer Processing Aid

Blown film extrusion

High-performance polyolefins, like LLDPE and mLLDPE, offer excellent film properties but can be challenging to process. Common problems include melt fracture (sharkskin), die build-up, gel formation, bubble instability, and surface defects. Polynexxt PPAs have demonstrated effectiveness in addressing most of these processing issues.

Multilayer film extrusion

In blown and cast films, multilayer film architecture can create unique processing challenges. The use of various materials and formulations to impart barrier properties, enhance inter-layer adhesion, and reduce costs often results in differences in layer thickness, rheology, and polymer type. These differences can cause the layers to meet at conflicting speeds, leading to turbulence at the interface and disrupting optical clarity.  This issue is particularly problematic for packaging industy, where optical clarity is crucial. Polynexxt PPAs can improve these properties.

Cast film extrusion

In cast film extrusion, higher processing temperatures and shear rates are typically used, which can lead to die build-up. This build-up causes film defects and necessitates frequent machine downtime for die cleaning. By incorporating Polynexxt PPA at lower levels, the extrusion process can be improved by eliminating die build-up.

Other extrusion

Polynexxt PPA can be added to any continuous extrusion process with high shear rates, offering benefits such as reduced die build-up, lower pressure, faster color transitions, energy savings, and improved surface quality.
